After graduating with First Class Honours in Jazz performance from the University of Adelaide, Kyrie quickly established herself as a stalwart in the Australian folk and jazz scene. Now based in Melbourne, she continues to be one of the country’s most sought-after musicians, known for her versatility, touch and expression behind the kit.
Her career has led her to collaborate with a diverse array of national and international artists, from Russian feminist icons Pussy Riot to North America's Basia Bulat, Rachel Baiman, Phil Dizack as well as Australian talents Julia Jacklin, Emma Donovan, Odette, Thndo, Kutcha Edwards, Australian String Quartet and more.
Kyrie is a regular collaborator with notable artists such as Sam Anning, Andrea Keller, The Maes, Rowena Wise, Harry Angus (Cat Empire), Nancy Bates, Stephen Magnusson, Stella Anning, Libby O’Donovan, and many others.
Her musical journey has taken her around the globe, gracing stages at numerous festivals including Breminale, Reeperbahn Festival, Woodford, Womadelaide, National Folk festival and more. Beyond her performances, Kyrie has served as Musical Director for "Songs and Times of Sam Cook" starring Gary Pinto, and directed large percussion ensembles for UK’s Lost and Found Orchestra’s (STOMP) Australian debut as well as Dance North’s show NOISE.
Kyrie wears multiple musical hats, co-leading jazz group Aura (ABC Jazz’s album of the week, Bandcamp’s new and notable, and the best Jazz on Bandcamp; February 2021), ThenNowWhen featuring Sam Anning & Theo Carbo and LIIT with Niran Dasika and Lawrence Folvig.
In 2019, Kyrie's musical prowess secured her a coveted spot in the prestigious Banff International Jazz and Creative Workshop, where she was mentored by luminaries Vijay Iyer and Tyshawn Sorey. Since that pivotal experience, she has emerged as a prominent figure in the Australian jazz and improvisation scene. Her exceptional contributions have not only led to two nominations for the esteemed Freedman Fellowship but have also featured her performances at major international jazz festivals around Australia with her group’s Aura, Then Now When, LIIT and the Sam Anning Septet.
In the last year, Kyrie has frequented Japan to record and perform with Sumire Kuribayashi quartet, as well as performed national tours with The Mae’s, Rowena Wise and Nancy Bates. She was also selected for two creative residencies with her band LIIT in which she returned to Banff, Canada and Harrigans Lane, NSW.
In addition to her career as a performer, Kyrie is committed to teaching and mentorship through Melbourne University’s Gender Defying Jazz Program and the Monash University Jazz Department. Kyrie has also ventured into tour management, collaborating with the Sam Anning Septet and Emma Donovan. Kyrie is a Ludwig Endorsed Artist.
